Rep. Miller Votes to Pass the SAVE America Act to Protect Election Integrity

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Mary Miller (IL-15) voted to pass S. 1383, the SAVE America Act. This legislation secures federal elections by ensuring that only American citizens vote in American elections.

As a member of the House Administration Committee, Congresswoman Miller was a critical proponent of this legislation.

“Congress has a constitutional responsibility to secure our elections and ensure the voices of American voters are protected. That’s why I was proud to vote to pass the SAVE America Act,” said Congresswoman Miller. “This bill ensures that only U.S. citizens can register and vote in federal elections. Over 80 percent of Americans support voter ID, including a majority of Democrats. Today, House Republicans delivered on that demand.”

The SAVE America Act establishes commonsense, nationwide standards to protect federal elections, including:

• Requiring proof of identity by photo ID to vote in federal elections.
• Requiring documentary proof of U.S. citizenship when registering to vote.
• Directing states to remove non-citizens from existing voter rolls.
• Empowering citizens to bring legal action against officials who fail to enforce the law.
• Updating federal election guidance to ensure smooth implementation.

Contrary to misinformation spread by opponents, the SAVE America Act:

• Does not disenfranchise women who change their names.
• Does not impact military members voting overseas.
• Does not require a passport to register to vote.
• Is fully constitutional under Congress’s authority to regulate federal elections.
