Congresswoman Miller Responds to Closure and Downsize Plans for Vandalia & Pontiac Prisons
Effingham, Ill. - Congresswoman Mary Miller (IL-15) released the following statement on the Illinois Department of Corrections' plan to close or downsize units at Vandalia and Pontiac prisons.
"I am very concerned by Governor Pritzker's plan to quietly close or downsize prisons without the public's knowledge or input," Miller said. "Governor Pritzker used COVID as an excuse to release criminals into our communities and refused to accept transfers from county jails into state facilities as part of his "woke" soft-on-crime agenda that has made Illinois more dangerous. Governor Pritzker signed legislation to eliminate bail and put offenders right back on the street. He is also refusing to work with ICE to deport dangerous illegal immigrants. Violent crime, shoplifting, and carjackings will continue to get worse under the pro-crime policies of Governor Pritzker."
