Rep. Mary Miller: I Want Your Input On The Farm Bill
WASHINGTON - House Agriculture Committee Chairman GT Thompson announced today that the committee will be marking up the Farm Bill on May 23, 2024. Congresswoman Mary Miller (R-IL) released the following statement:
"Over the past year, the House Agriculture Committee has diligently laid the groundwork to pass a Farm Bill to put producers first and ensure a strong agriculture safety net.
"As a family farmer, I understand the challenges faced by those who work tirelessly to feed and fuel our nation. Rising input costs, higher diesel prices, and the historic inflation we face under the Biden Administration are making it increasingly difficult for farmers to survive. Food security is national security, which is why American farmers need a Farm Bill that supports crop insurance and the farm risk safety net.
"I will push to include my provisions protecting fertile farmland from being replaced with Chinese solar panels because I strongly believe our farmland must be protected as a critical resource for growing food.
"As we approach the May 23rd Farm Bill hearing, I want to hear from farmers and constituents in downstate and central Illinois on how we can best serve Illinois farmers before this important hearing. Agriculture is the lifeblood of our local economy, and protecting the family farm is my top priority."
